Four decisions we make on every door

None of these is exotic. They are the things that decide whether a repair holds through a second winter or becomes another call in March.

Hardware chosen for this climate

Nylon rollers with sealed bearings rather than bare steel, galvanised cables, and a bottom seal that stays flexible below freezing. Parts that are fine in a mild state fail early here, and the difference in cost at fitting time is small.

Springs replaced in pairs

When one spring breaks, its partner has done the same number of cycles and is usually months behind it. Replacing one is a second call-out you did not need, so we quote the pair and explain why.

The salt line gets attention

Slush off the car collects at the bottom of the door and works on the cables and bottom brackets all winter. It is the reason most cables here fail within a foot of the floor, and it is the first thing we look at on any service call.

We say when a repair is not worth it

A single damaged section on a current model is a panel job, not a new door, and we will tell you that even though it is the smaller invoice. Equally, we will not chase discontinued parts around a twenty-year-old door and bill you for the search.
